Schutterswei
Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant De Oude Gevangenis-Alkmaar has a special and rich history. The building was designed in 1884 as a prison, known as De Hout, and later renamed Schutterswei. In total, there were over 104 cells. After closing in 2013, the building underwent an impressive transformation and opened as a hotel in 2020. Today, Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant De Oude Gevangenis-Alkmaar combines its historical character with modern hospitality.
De Schutterswei is a well-known national monument. Did you know that the prison has had famous residents? Willem Holleeder and Cor van Hout stayed there for a while, as did other Heineken kidnappers. The Moluccan train hijackers, Pistolen Paultje and Stanley Hillis were also held there.
In the 1970s, the prison was renovated and additional facilities were added, such as a printing house, bookbinding and sports hall. The current party room was originally a workspace where prisoners, including bookbinders, spent their time.
In 2013 the prison was closed, but until the end of 2016 the complex was still regularly used as a film location, including for the SBS series Celblok H.
